Paper 1:

This is for students wanting to do under graduation in Engineering at premier institutes like the NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.

Paper 2:

This paper is for those students who seek admission into B. Arch and B. Planning courses at institutes that accept JEE Main scores.

Eligibility:

Students who clear the JEE Main exam are automatically eligible for admission into undergraduate Engineering programs and Architecture colleges in any part of India.

Top Rank Holders:

All those successful students whose rank falls within the top 2,50,000 in the JEE Main exam are eligible to appear for the second stage of the JEE exam, the JEE Advanced. The JEE Advanced marks the last stage for admissions into the coveted IITs.

Scope:

JEE Main scores are accepted at the top engineering institutes in India, such as the NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must fulfill all the eligibility criteria laid down by the NTA. The eligibility criteria ensures that only deserving candidates will be allowed to take the exam. Candidates should also know that the criteria for this exam may change from year to year.

Eligibility for this exam is based on:

  • Reservation Criteria

General Eligibility:

  • There is no age limit for aspirants to this exam.
  • Students should have cleared the Class XII exam either in the current year, or upto two years ago. 
  • Students appearing for the Class XII exam in the current year are also eligible.
  • Those students who studied English, a vocational subject, Physics, Chemistry, and Maths in Class XII are eligible to take this exam.
  • Candidates should have secured at least 75% in the Class XII exam. For the B. Arch exam, students should secure a minimum of 50% in Class XII.

Paper-wise Eligibility:

  • To appear for the B.E. or B.Tech, exam, aspirants should pass the Class XII exam with  Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and one subject from Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subjects.
  • Students should pass Class XII with 75% marks. For SC/ST students, the cutoff is 65%.
  • For the B. Arch. entrance exam, candidates should secure 50%. 
  • Students should pass Class XII exam with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths or 10+3 Diploma with maths.
  • For B. Planning, students should pass the Class XII exam with Maths.

Reservation Criteria:

  • Other Backward Classes belonging to the Non-Creamy Layer have a 27% reservation.
  • SCs get 15% reservation.
  • STs get 7.5% reservation.
  • Persons with 40% or more disability gets a 3% horizontal reservation.
  • Female Category (Supernumerary) only in NITs gets 8%-14% reservation.
  • EWS (Supernumerary) gets 10% reservation.

Reservations for NITs, IITs and GFTIs are decided according to the central list, not state.

JEE Main Exam Application Process

The National Testing Agency (NTA) concludes the JEE Main exam registration. The authorities update the JEE Main application form link on the official website jeemain.nta.ac.in.

Now, students are able to apply for both sessions during the JEE Main session 1 registration. To be eligible for the JEE exam, candidates must complete their registration, fill the form, upload their documents and pay the JEE Main application fees. Steps to Fill JEE Main Application Form

Candidates can follow the steps given below to fill the JEE Main Application Form:

Step #1:

The first step is to register for the JEE Main exam. For this, candidates must visit the official website of the JEE Main Exam and fill out the application form. Candidates will need to enter their details such as name, father’s name, mother’s name, address, gender, and other details. Once completed and submitted, the candidate will be mailed and texted the JEE Main application number to the registered email ID and mobile number provided. 

 

Step #2:

Next, candidates must visit the official website of JEE Main and log in using the allotted credentials. This will enable candidates to apply for  Paper 1 or Paper 2 or both. While filling the form, candidates will need to enter four exam centres of their suitability, along with their academic details and other details asked. 

 

Step #3:

At this stage, candidates must upload scanned images of their documents, and their photos and signatures. This completes the application process.

Application Fee

The application fees for the JEE Main 2024 exam differ for Indian and international applicants. General/EWS/OBC-NCL male candidates are required to pay INR 1000, while female candidates need to pay INR 800. SC, ST, PwD, or transgender candidates intending to appear for the exam are charged INR 500.

How to Recover Forgotten JEE Main Exam Application Number

Step #1:

Visit the JEE Main website.

Click the link to open the login page.

Click “I can’t access my account.”

JEE Main Exam Pattern For All Papers

JEE Main Exam Pattern for B.Tech/B.E. (Paper 1)

The JEE Main exam Paper 1 is of three hours duration, and four hours for PwD candidates. This is an online exam and the paper is divided into two sections for each subject:

Section A: MCQs

Section A comprises 25 questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. All questions must be answered.

 

Section B: Numerical Questions

JEE Main Paper 2 Exam Pattern

The JEE Main Paper 2 exam pattern is important for students as they can familiarise themselves with the types of questions to expect, the marking scheme, language, mode of exam, and more.

This paper is separate for B.Arch applicants and B.Plan candidates. Though both have Aptitude and Maths in common, B.Arch students must compulsorily take the drawing test while the B.Plan applicants must answer the questions on planning.

Things to Carry for JEE Main Exam

Candidates are permitted to carry the following items to the JEE Main exam hall:

  • IIT JEE Admit Card and Self-Declaration downloaded from the NTA website and printed on A4 sheet and correctly filled in
  • A transparent ball point pen
  • A valid photo id proof
  • A passport-size photo, similar to the one in the application form
  • PwD certificate, if applicable
  • Personal hand sanitizer (50 ml)

What Not to Carry Into the Exam Hall

  • No luggage will be allowed in the exam hall.
  • The authorities will not be responsible for any loss of property or personal belongings from the premises.
  • Candidates will not be permitted to enter the exam hall with calculators, written material, slide rules, mobile phones, or any other electronic device.
  • If a candidate is found to possess any of the above items, his candidature will be cancelled.

Exam day Guidelines

Candidates must read and comply with the exam day guidelines of the JEE Main exam during the examination:

  • Candidates must possess the JEE Main exam Admit Card and a valid ID proof to take the exam. 
  • Take care to reach the centre at least an hour before the time mentioned. Candidates entering after the mentioned time will not be allowed to take the exam. 
  • Applicants cannot enter or leave the JEE Main exam center before or after the gate closes.
  • Candidates must follow the dress code. They should wear light, simple clothes on exam day.
  • Each candidate will be give scribble paper in the exam hall. So, they need not carry any paper with them to the centre.
  • PwD candidates should carry PwD certificates issued by a competent authority.

Unable to Download JEE Main Admit Card - What To Do?

If candidates are unable to download their Admit Cards, they should call the JEE Main helpline number at 0120 6895200 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Alternatively, they can send an email to jeemain-nta@nic.in, quoting their NTA JEE Mains application number and confirmation page.

IIT JEE Self-Declaration Form

In the light of the COVID-19 situation, the NTA issued a self-declaration form for students to disclose their health and travel information. Candidates are required to furnish the following details in the NTA self-declaration form:

  • Flu-like symptoms in the last 14 days- Fever, cough, breathlessness, sore throat, runny nose, bodyache, etc.
  • Whether the candidate has been in close physical contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19.
  • Travel history in the last 14 days prior to arriving at the centre.

Enter the JEE Main application number and date of birth/password. Click the login button. 

 

Step #4:

The required answer key of JEE Main of the current year will be displayed on the screen. 

 

Step #5:

Cross check that the IDs with the JEE Mains question paper provided on the screen. 

 

Step #6:

Print out the document using the JEE Main response sheet. Calculate probable marks.

How to Check Answer Key with Questions

To dispute the answer key of JEE Main exam, candidates need to be familiar with the question IDs. NTA only releases answer options alongside question IDs, not the actual questions. Therefore, candidates must download the JEE Main question paper to obtain all the question IDs.

Subsequently, they should compare these question IDs with the JEE Main provisional answer key of the current year. If any inconsistencies arise, candidates should make a note of the NTA JEE Main question ID and the corresponding answer ID for reference.

Challenging the JEE Main Answer Key

The authorities provide candidates with two days to challenge the JEE Main Answer Key each year. For this, candidates are required to pay a processing fee of INR 200 per question.

If the authorities accept the candidate’s challenge, this processing fee is retunded to the candidate. After considering the candidate’s objections, JEE Main releases the final answer key for the current year.

JEE Main Response Sheet

The current year’s answer key and JEE Main response sheet can be accessed on the official JEE Main website. These response sheets include candidates’ answers written at the exam. Candidates have the option to review their responses and raise any objections they may have regarding the official answer key by submitting their request to the NTA.

JEE Main Result

To download the JEE Main B. Arch exam, candidates must provide their JEE application number and date of birth. By using the JEE Main scorecard, candidates can check the scores of each subject, the total NTA scores, All-India Rank, personal details, and many more details.

NTA uses a process called normalization to ensure that the JEE Main results are universally fair, irrespective of the exam shift they took.

Tie-Breaking for JEE Mains Paper 1

The National Testing Agency will release rank list for JEE Main 2024 along with the NTA April result. The scorecard of JEE Main 2024 mentioned the category and gender-wise JEE Main rank list. The authorities follow a tie-breaking rule in case two or more candidates receive the same marks. 

 

After the NTA releases the rank list for the JEE Mains exam Paper 1, a scorecard of the rankers is listed along with their genders and categories. In case of a tie, the tie-breaking rule is implemented.

How Tie-Breaking for JEE Mains Paper 1 Is Resolved

Candidates who score an equal number in the JEE  Main Paper 1 is done as follows: 

 

  • NTA score in Maths
  • NTA score in Physics
  • NTA score in Chemistry
  • Those candidates who score a lesser ratio of negative to positive responses will be given a higher rank. 
  • The older candidate 
  • Application Number in ascending order

 

Tie-Breaking for JEE Mains Paper 2

Candidates having an equal score in the JEE  Main Paper 2 will be resolved as given below:

 

  • NTA score obtained in Maths
  • NTA score obtained in Aptitude Test
  • NTA score obtained in Drawing Test
  • Candidates having fewer negative responses than positive will be given a higher JEE Main rank 
  • Older in age
  • Application Number in ascending order

JEE Main Counselling

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) conducts JEE Main counselling and seat allotment. Candidates who clear the exam must register for counselling via JoSAA. It conducts six general rounds and two mock rounds. To participate, applicants must register and fill their choices. Seat allocation is done on the basis of applicant numbers, available seats, and candidate ranks.

Visit JoSAA’s official website, josaa.nic.in.

 

Step #2:

Click on the JoSAA counselling registration link.

 

Step #3:

Enter the JEE Main application number and password on the candidate login page.

After registration, the candidate will find his details on the screen.

Check details and complete registration.

 

Step #6:

Now, candidates must fill in their choices of college and course. 

 

Step #7:

Candidates are allowed to fill in as many choices as desired. 

 

Step #8:

After choice filling, candidates must lock their filled choices before the last date. JoSAA seat allotment will appear on the official website round-wise.  

After completion of the last round, candidates must report to the institutes and complete any remaining admission formalities. This includes paying the remaining fees and submitting the required documents to the chosen institute.
